Agricultural education was provided for in the organization of the University by the Minnesota territorial legislature in 1851. Harry Snyder was born on January 26, 1867 in Cherry Valley, New York. He earned a B.S. from Cornell University in 1889. After graduation, Snyder worked as an instructor and assistant chemist at Cornell (1889-1891). Snyder came to the University of Minnesota in 1891 as a chemist for the Agricultural Experiment Station.
